Responsibilities

SUMMARY:

An Assistant Superintendent with Buzz Oates Construction, Inc. is an important member of our company family, individual project teams, and a future leader of our highly skilled and dedicated group of subcontractors. Assist the superintendent in coordinating all site construction activities.

REPORTS TO: Project Manager/Superintendent

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • A general understanding of commercial and industrial construction methods and a strong desire to learn and grow in areas not yet very experienced in. This is a learning position to learn all aspects of the Superintendent duties
  • Assist superintendent in coordinating all site construction activities, supervises in-house skilled, unskilled labor and subcontractors
  • Work on multiple projects at any given time in various geographical locations
  • Assists with monitoring of quality control and workmanship assuring conformance with project plans and specifications
  • Request, be present for, and coordinate subcontractor participation in all necessary inspections throughout the project
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety at all times, and demands the same from everyone on the jobsite at all times
  • Prepares, schedules and supervises completion of final project punchlist
  • Maintains positive and professional relationships with co-workers, subcontractors, suppliers, inspectors, customers at all times
  • Excellent communication with Project Manager/Project Engineer on design/constructability issues, RFI’s, field plan revisions (red-lines)
  • Excellent verbal, written, organizational skills and attention to detail in all activities
  • Must be able to work overtime, nights, weekends and generally be very flexible and accommodating with hours willing to work

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

Occasional manual labor to include; lifting and carrying of up to 50 lbs., bending, stooping, squatting, climbing ladders, standing for 8 or more hours per day. Ability to operate heavy equipment (including climbing on and off), small power tools and basic hand tools. Ability to be exposed to excessive noise and work out of doors in high and low temperatures with exposure to direct sun for 8 or more hours per day.

Ability to stand, squat, lift when filing documents in large drawers or cabinets. The employee is occasionally required to move around the office building, drive to buildings and walk the site.

Education/Experience

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent, and a minimum of two years commercial/industrial/TI/ground-up construction experience in a skilled labor and/or general labor role.
  • Bi-lingual (Spanish) is a plus.
  • Bachelor’s degree (B. A.) from four-year College or university in engineering or construction management preferred but not a requirement.
  • Clean driving record.
  • BOC, Inc. has a zero tolerance policy on substance abuse, and applicants will be required to pass a drug screening test.

To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic knowledge of the following programs:

  • Word Processing (MS Word)
  • Spreadsheets (MS Excel)
  • Construction Scheduling (MS Project/Primavera/Suretrak)
  • Procore
  • Timberline general fluency in how to work from a windows laptop
  • iPad & Smartphone with various programs and applications
